Ganesha's birth
According to a story from the Varäha Puräna, Shiva creates Ganesha from his laughter. Shiva considers him too alluring and is afraid that his son might allure the ladies, so he himself curses Ganesha to become an elephant-headed (gajanana) , to have a protruding belly (lambodara) carrying a garland of serpents around his stomach
